Breast lift surgery, also known as, mastopexy, can restore the contour of the breasts to a more youthful, vivacious state, thereby erasing years off a woman's body by lifting and tightening breast tissue. Dr. Bui has found that the most likely candidates are those who have sagging breasts due to past pregnancies, weight loss, large and heavy breasts, or aging. Breast lift surgery helps patients achieve a more attractive, feminine shape and contour, and better proportioned areolas. Often Dr. Bui may perform the mastopexy in combination with the breast augmentation.

Breast lift surgery takes approximately one to three hours and is performed on an outpatient basis at our state-of-the-art, fully accredited surgical center under general anesthesia.

Dr. Bui will provide options for the placement of the incisions required for the breast lift procedure to accommodate your individual needs at the time of consultation. There are different types of breast lift: the circumareola lift, the vertical breast lift, and the traditional lift.

In the circumareola lift, incision is only made around the nipple- areola. This procedure generally also requires placement of implants. The vertical breast lift uses incision around the nipple-areola and the vertical incision extending from the bottom of the areola down to the fold. Implants may also be used with this type of lift. The traditional breast lift uses three incisions: the incision around the nipple- areolar complex, the vertical incision from the areola down to the inframammary crease, and an incision in the crease underneath the breast.

During breast lift surgery, excess skin is removed and the breast tissue and nipples are elevated to a higher position on the chest wall. The insertion of a breast implant may or may not be advisable during the procedure.

Breast lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and patients go home in a bra with only light dressings over the incision lines. Initial discomfort or pain is controlled with oral medications. Patients are able to return to work in about one week. Light activities may be resumed in seven to ten days; however, you should avoid strenuous activities or exercise for several weeks and should be extremely gentle with your breasts for at least four to six weeks following surgery. The scars usually fade in six months to one year depending on skin type.
