breasts have been known to cause many problems – from musculosketetal
pain of the back and neck to skin irritation to difficulty finding
clothing that fits well. In addition, they can make a woman feel very
self-conscious. Breast reduction removes excess fat, glandular tissue, and
skin from the breasts, giving them a lighter, firmer, and more
proportional appearance to the rest of the body.
The procedure can be done on an outpatient or inpatient setting under general anesthesia. Although the scars on the breasts are permanent, they can be concealed easily by clothing. Discomfort from breast reduction surgery generally lasts only a few days and is well tolerated. You may be up and about on the same day but should avoid lifting or strenuous activities for three to four weeks. Although you will be free of the discomfort from a large breast immediately, it may be six months to a year before your breasts settle into their new shape.
