The eyes are one of the first thing we notice when we meet someone. Beautiful eyes can make a face appear more youthful. Likewise, eyes that are tired, droopy, or swollen may not reflect a vibrant inner self. It is often said that the earliest signs of aging are around the eyes. A primary reason for droopy eyes is simply due to aging. Another reason for "tired eyes" is because of visible fat bags in the lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty trims the excess skin and repositions or removes the excess fat to restore a youthful and vibrant look to the eyes.

Dr. Bui can perform eyelid surgery alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as facelift and browlift. If done alone, the operation takes about one to two hours for all four eyelids (both upper and lower eyelids). Blepharoplasty of either the upper or lower eyelids alone typically takes about one hour and can be done under general or local anesthesia.

Recovery from eyelid surgery is quick with very little pain. Sutures are removed at 4 or 5 days and make-up can be used the day after suture removal. Minimal blurry vision quickly resolves. Sunglasses allow you to go out in public immediately after surgery. Normal activity can be resumed in a few days and exercise can be resumed about 2 weeks after surgery.

Sometimes upper eyelid surgery is combined with eyebrow and forehead lifts to improve the contour of the eyebrow and to remove sagging skin in the outer corner of the eyes. Dr. Bui will discuss whether you might benefit from this combined procedure during your initial consultation.
